5 simple tips on how to maintain a flawless skin

We all want to have that flawless Instagrammable skin like the celebrities and models we so admire but obtaining — and maintaining — a flawless skin is no easy task. Particularly keeping your face free from pimples and other common skin problems. A lot of work — and makeup — goes on ‘behind-the-scenes’ to achieve that perfect look.

But all hope is not lost. There are still a number of basic things we ‘mere mortals’ can still do to achieve a clear picturesque skin. It all bores down to good hygiene, finding what works for your skin, and being consistent with it.

So, without wasting any time at all, here are some simple but quintessential tips on how to keep your skin flawless:

Keep those fingernails clean

Yes, you read that right. You may be wondering what keeping your fingernails clean has to do with your skin. Know it or not, we’re almost constantly touching our faces, either to itch or when applying something. Considering this, it’s expedient that those nails are clipped, and if you don’t want to clip them, ensure under the nails are kept free of dirt. You could start a routine of trimming and cleaning your nails every two weeks — this applies to your toenails too.

Wash and moisturise every day

This is a no-brainer, right. Even if you’re not particular about skincare, it’s already expected of you to take a bath or wash your face every day. This is essential for maintaining a flawless, healthy skin. Equally important is moisturising as it keeps your skin from drying out and also prevents wrinkles. You can do this either once or twice — morning and night — daily.

Exfoliate regularly

Exfoliating is basically the process of removing dead layers of skin which tend to block your skin pores hence, making it look dry and prone to acne. A simple way to exfoliate is to use a loofah or any soft bathing sponge to gently scrub your face and other parts of your skin. Doing this regularly will ensure your skin is always well aerated, making it look less dry and scaly.

Apply a lip balm regularly — yes, guys too

FYI, your lips are also part of your skin and require as much care as the rest of your skin. Considering that your lips have no sebaceous glands meaning it can’t produce its own oil to self-moisturise, then it is very important that you apply a lip moisturiser (chapstick or lip balm) as often as possible. Also, avoid licking your lips as it tends to make it look even drier later on.

Bonus tip

Drink lots of water throughout the day and eat lots of fruits with high water content like cucumber, watermelon, oranges, and so on. These may not have an immediately visible effect on your skin but in the long run, you’ll thank yourself for doing that.
